A no-pressure conversation. You share what's going on, I share how I work, and we figure out together if this feels like the right fit.
One therapist for the whole state — whether you live in San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, or anywhere in between. Licensed in California, working entirely by telehealth, with the same clinician you keep through every move within state lines.
Rose Markotic, LMFT — licensed in California, Connecticut, Maine, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
California has more residents than any other state — and one of the country’s tightest mental-health provider shortages, especially for evidence-based therapy. The waiting list for a CBT-trained therapist in San Francisco or Los Angeles can stretch months. Telehealth closes that gap.
I work with adults across the state by secure video — most often clients dealing with high-pressure careers, perfectionism, anxiety in tech and creative industries, ADHD that didn’t get caught until adulthood, and the identity questions that come with major California life transitions (a job change, a layoff, a move within the state, parenthood).
Because everything happens online, I can be your therapist whether you’re in the Bay Area working in tech, in LA navigating the entertainment industry, in San Diego stationed near the coast, or in a smaller California city where in-person specialists are scarce.
Serving clients across California: San Francisco · Oakland · Los Angeles · San Diego · Sacramento · San Jose · Berkeley
All sessions take place over a HIPAA-compliant video platform. You need to be physically located in California at the time of session.
A no-pressure conversation. You share what's going on, I share how I work, and we figure out together if this feels like the right fit.
Our first full 50-minute session. I'll learn about your goals, what you're struggling with, and what's already worked. We start identifying patterns.
Together we set the direction — what we'll work on, what tools we'll start with, and how we'll know when something is working.
California clients tend to bring a specific mix of concerns — high-stakes careers, identity questions, and the perfectionism that often hides underneath both.
Tech, startups, entertainment, healthcare, law — California careers can be punishing. We work on the thoughts that drive over-functioning and the boundaries that protect what you actually care about.
A signature specialty. The standards that got you here often become the thing keeping you stuck. We test those standards directly — without losing the drive that brought you to where you are.
Skills to interrupt anxious spirals, calm panic, and re-engage with the parts of life anxiety has shrunk. TEAM-CBT pairs in-session methods with practical homework you can use the same week.
For California professionals diagnosed late or never formally diagnosed. Less shame loop, more systems that fit the way your brain actually works.
Layoffs, role changes, becoming a parent, moving cities within California, leaving a long-term relationship. The disorientation is real, and it’s workable.
If you relocate from the Bay Area to LA, or from San Diego to Sacramento, we keep meeting. Same therapist, same treatment plan, no starting over.

Telehealth across all five states
My counseling style is warm, empathetic, and collaborative. I provide a safe space to explore issues and generate solutions. I introduce powerful methods to help you shift unhelpful thinking patterns to change how you feel. I also assist individuals feeling stuck in relationship patterns to understand their role and take active steps to improve the relationship. I practice from a TEAM-CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) approach and I am part of the Stanford T.E.A.M CBT group lead by Dr. David Burns. I am currently accepting new clients across California, Connecticut, Maine, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
Yes. Rose is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in California, which authorizes psychotherapy with anyone physically located in the state at the time of session. You don’t need to be in any specific California city — Bay Area, LA, San Diego, Sacramento, Central Valley, anywhere in CA.
Yes — a substantial portion of California clients work in tech, startups, or adjacent fields. The pattern of perfectionism, burnout, identity-fused-with-job, and anxiety around layoffs/funding is common, and TEAM-CBT addresses it directly. Sessions can usually accommodate variable work schedules.
No. As long as you’re still physically in California at the time of session, we continue. SF to LA, San Diego to Sacramento, urban to rural — all fine. The continuity often becomes one of the most useful parts of treatment during a relocation.
Better Thoughts is out-of-network. Most California PPO plans (Blue Shield, Anthem, Aetna, Cigna, United) reimburse 60–80% of out-of-network therapy fees. We provide a monthly superbill you submit to your insurer; our insurance specialist can help you check benefits before your first session. HMO plans (Kaiser, etc.) typically don’t reimburse out-of-network — if you have an HMO, we’ll talk through whether out-of-pocket still makes sense.
California is one time zone, so this isn’t an issue within the state. If you travel out of state for work, we’d need to pause those weeks unless you’re in another state where I’m licensed — Connecticut, Maine, Rhode Island, or Vermont. That’s rare for most clients but worth knowing in advance.
No — Better Thoughts is private-pay only. If Medi-Cal is your primary coverage, the most accessible option is usually a community mental-health agency or a county-run clinic that accepts Medi-Cal directly. I’m happy to talk through that on the consult call.
